Lodge Cottage
Our nursery school provides children with a warm, caring and friendly first link between home and the outside world. It also prepares them for a confident entry into their first school. Joanna Hammond owns and manages this friendly and caring nursery which she opened in 1987. She is assisted by a small group of well qualified nursery staff who have been chosen not only for their qualifications, but also for their genuine warmth and understanding of young children.
The Nursery Building
The Nursery is set in two attractive, spacious cottages, which have been specially converted on the ground floor into a warm, light and welcoming nursery room. It has carefully thought out areas for mark making, messy play, building and construction, imaginative play and for quieter activities. The children’s own art work decorates the nursery. The children are proud of their nursery and like to help keep it looking tidy and interesting.
The Nursery Garden
Lodge Cottage has a wonderful, large, natural garden complete with a hill for rolling, sliding and watching the world. It has a path for pedaling bikes and cars and spacious patio with a huge outdoor sand pit. We love to grow plants and seeds and we have a vegetable patch too. There are trees for shady areas in summer and plenty of room for running, climbing activities and making dens. We also have a large car park to enable you to park safely and easily.
The Nursery Session
The nursery session allows the children to choose from a wide range of activities and resources that are especially designed to stimulate and interest. Activities include painting, cutting, sticking, tracing, puzzles, construction toys, cooking, introduction to books and stories, music and movement, large climbing apparatus, outdoor activities, sand play, water play, imaginative play and much more! At each session there is a snack time and at the end of every session we meet together to sing songs and talk about what we have enjoyed and experienced.
Meeting Your Child's Individual Needs
Each member of staff is designated a group of children for whom they are especially responsible. This staff member is called a ‘Key Worker’. They will help to compile a special diary for your child including observations, pictures, anecdotes and notes, showing key areas of achievement while your child is at Lodge Cottage. This is called a ‘Learning Story’. You are welcome to chat to any staff member at any time and we hope that you will enjoy reading and sharing the Learning Story throughout your child’s time at nursery.
